Membership, family and dues cards for calendar year 2009, commemorating the Association’s 20th anniversary, will be mailed out this Autumn.  So, any member in good standing who has changed his or her mailing address within the last twelve (12) months should contact the Association as soon as possible.

Annual Holiday Party

Mark your calendars!  The Association’s annual holiday party will be hosted in Atlantic City, NJ, on the evening of Thursday, December 11, 2008, at Morton’s Steakhouse (Caesars).  This year’s holiday party will be open and free to any member in good standing and his or her guest.  Special conditions may apply, and further details will be forthcoming from Association Treasurer Timothy Callahan.

Special room rates will also be available.

Those interested in attending must contact Treasurer Callahan by no later than Tuesday, November 18, 2008, and he can be reached at (609) 870-8012 or at callsgt151@msn.com.

Update on Unionizing the Chiefs

On May 6, 2008, the New Jersey Public Employment Relations Commission (PERC) rescheduled the Association’s May 12, 2008 hearing for formal proceedings on July 31 and August 5 and 6, 2008.  However, in correspondence dated July 1, 2008, PERC hearing officer Deirdre K. Hartman rescheduled the proceedings for September 30 and October 1, 2008.  In earlier correspondence, she writes:

“The State shall proceed first and I request the parties submit witness lists one week prior to the hearing.  Any prehearing motions similarly shall be filed one week prior to the hearing.”

Now, in correspondence dated July 31, 2008, she sets the proceedings for September 30, October 3 and, if necessary, October 8, 2008.

The membership will be kept abreast of the latest developments.  Any Chief willing to testify before PERC in the Association’s behalf should contact Associate Vice President Craig Stellman at (215) 200-0044 or at crgstell@comcast.net.

Retired Membership
Posted Monday, December 3, 2007

When you retire, your membership in the Association is not automatically renewed.  Despite the benefits, and for whatever reason, some members wish not to continue membership upon retirement.  It is clearly an individual choice.

If you would like to apply for retired membership, you must complete a new membership application and submit it to the Association, along with payment of dues assessed on a pro rata basis (NOTE: Dues owed at the time of your application for retired membership are predicated upon the effective date of your retirement as follows):

January 1 — $130; February 1 — $119.17; March 1 — $108.34; April 1 — $97.51; May 1 — $86.68; June 1 — $75.85; July 1 — $65.00; August 1 — $54.19; September 1 — $43.36; October 1 — $32.53; November 1 — $21.70; December 1 — $10.87

Thereafter, retired members, in order to remain in good standing, must pay annual dues, currently assessed at $130, to the Association no later than the deadline of December 1.

Membership applications are available for download from this website.
